ARAU, Feb 27 — The Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management Corporation (SWCorp) aims to rescue up to 100,000 kg of surplus food from Ramadan bazaars nationwide this year through its food waste reduction campaign.

SWCorp CEO Khalid Mohamed said the target reflects growing public awareness and builds on last year’s campaign, which saved over 70,000 kg of food from being discarded. “With increased engagement from the public and traders, we expect to save between 80,000 and 100,000 kg this year,” he told reporters at the launch of the Appreciate Food, Avoid Waste Campaign at the Arau Ramadan Bazaar.

The initiative, organised in partnership with the Perlis State Government, Kangar Municipal Council (MPK), the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM), and solid waste concessionaire E-Idaman Sdn Bhd, will collect unsold or leftover food for distribution to the needy through NGOs and strategic partners. — Bernama
