SEOUL, Sept 20 — Iga Swiatek powered into the Korea Open final after rain delays forced her to play two matches in a single day, wrapping up both wins in just two and a half hours.

The six-time Grand Slam champion from Poland cruised past Barbora Krejcikova of the Czech Republic 6-0, 6-3 in a rescheduled quarter-final, before returning to the court a few hours later to dispatch Australia’s Maya Joint 6-0, 6-2 in the semi-finals.

World number two Swiatek, who is now through to her fifth final of the year, will meet either Russia’s Ekaterina Alexandrova or the Czech Republic’s Katerina Siniakova in Sunday’s showdown.

“I just focused on myself and the goals I had set earlier, and stuck to what has been working for me throughout the tournament,” said Swiatek.

Coming into Seoul after a surprise quarter-final loss to Amanda Anisimova at the US Open, Swiatek showed no signs of slowing down. She needed 1 hour 25 minutes to see off Krejcikova and just over an hour to seal victory against Joint, finishing the match with a crisp winner at the net.

The tournament has faced weather disruptions all week, with all four quarter-finals postponed by a day due to heavy rain. — AFP
