MANCHESTER, April 28 — Manchester United moved closer to securing Champions League qualification with a 2-1 victory over Brentford on Monday, but interim manager Michael Carrick said the team must continue pushing to finish as high as possible in the Premier League.
PUTRAJAYA, May 13 — The federal government has emphasised that the logistics company responsible for the lorry involved in the Teluk Intan crash, which claimed the lives of nine Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) personnel, must be held accountable.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the fatal accident could have been prevented if the stone-laden lorry had undergone thorough inspections, such as those conducted by Puspakom.
“We should not only hold the lorry driver responsible, but also the company that owns the vehicle must be accountable,” he said during a press conference at the Prime Minister’s Department.
This statement follows preliminary findings by Hilir Perak district police chief ACP Bakri Zainal Abidin, who reported that a steering failure was believed to have caused the crash.
The incident occurred at 8.50am on Jalan Chikus-Sungai Lampam when a stone-carrying lorry collided with an FRU truck transporting 15 personnel. Eight officers died at the scene, while another succumbed to injuries at Teluk Intan Hospital. Two others were injured.
The lorry driver, in his 40s, was unharmed and has been detained under Section 41 of the Road Transport Act 1987.
