KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 17 — The LRT3 line connecting Shah Alam and nearby areas is expected to begin operations on December 31, pending the final phase of testing and commissioning, Transport Minister Anthony Loke said. He stressed that safety, reliability and technical compliance remain top priorities, with the opening date dependent on fault-free test results.

Loke told the Dewan Rakyat that Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd has already hired 956 staff across operations, technical, engineering and support roles in preparation for the launch.

On the recent KLIA Terminal 1 roof leakage after heavy rain on November 14, Loke said Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad has been ordered to take stern action against the contractor involved, calling the incident “disappointing and embarrassing”.

He also reaffirmed the ministry’s uncompromising stance on enforcing laws against overloaded vehicles, saying only firm political will can address the decades-long problem.

Parliament later approved the ministry’s RM6.77 billion allocation under Budget 2026. The sitting continues tomorrow. - Bernama
