KUALA LUMPUR, April 15 — The remains of former Prime Minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi arrived at the National Mosque at 8.15am today, ahead of his state funeral.

His body was transported from his residence at Persiaran Tuanku Ja’afar in a hearse provided by the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim).

Upon arrival, eight army officers carried the coffin into the mosque, with his wife, Tun Jeanne Abdullah, walking solemnly behind.

The body was first taken to the washing room to undergo Islamic purification rites.

Meanwhile, in the main prayer hall upstairs, police personnel, members of the media, mosque imams, and several army officials waited for the body’s arrival. A blue ceremonial platform, cordoned off with ropes, had been prepared at the centre of the hall for the lying-in-state.

The lying-in-state is scheduled to take place from 11am to 1pm.

According to the Prime Minister’s Department, the funeral prayer will be held after the zuhur prayer at the National Mosque, followed by burial at the Heroes’ Mausoleum.

Tun Abdullah passed away at the National Heart Institute (IJN) at 7.10pm yesterday. He was 85.
