BANGKOK, April 24 — Thailand’s Supreme Court on Friday agreed to hear a petition accusing 44 current and former opposition lawmakers of ethics violations over their 2021 move to amend a law protecting the monarchy from criticism, according to Thai media reports.
KUALA LUMPUR, March 17 — Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) is offering a record 251,752 seats across its Electric Train Service (ETS) and KTM Intercity services in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the increase is driven by 228 additional train trips scheduled between March 17 and 29 — a 113% rise from the 118,440 seats provided last year.
He noted that the expansion in ETS services is supported by the arrival of 10 new ETS3 train sets, which, together with existing fleets, allow KTMB to maximise capacity and better accommodate passengers travelling back to their hometowns.
Speaking after meeting passengers and distributing 500 Hari Raya gift packs at KL Sentral, Loke said 196 of the extra trips involve ETS services, while 32 are for EMU Plus services. This brings daily frequency up to 64 trips, with operations running nearly 24 hours during peak travel periods.
“As a comparison, we introduced up to 196 additional ETS trips this year versus just 56 last year — an increase of nearly 250%. Our goal is to fully utilise existing assets so more people can travel home comfortably and safely using public transport,” he said.
As of 9am today, 177,796 ETS tickets (99%) have been sold, with 34,964 additional ETS tickets and 5,912 EMU Plus tickets still available.
For the Ekspres Rakyat Timuran (ERT) service on the JB Sentral–Tumpat route, KTMB has added four extra coaches, raising total capacity to 13,910 seats, of which 95% have already been sold.
Loke also announced the introduction of the Ekspres Lambaian Aidilfitri (ELA) service for both East Coast and Northern routes to further meet strong travel demand. — Bernama
