MELAKA, March 21 — The government has designated Melaka as the host for the launch of Visit Malaysia Year 2026 (VM2026), with approval for the event’s budget, said Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing.

He confirmed that the launch will take place on World Tourism Day (WTD) 2025 in September, with preparations led by the state government.

“We have agreed, and so has the Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim),” he stated during an engagement session with Melaka’s tourism industry players at Bukit Cina yesterday.

The event was officiated by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh and attended by Tourism Malaysia director-general Datuk Manoharan Periasamy, State Tourism, Arts and Culture Committee chairman Datuk Abdul Razak Abdul Rahman, and over 1,000 tourism industry players.

Tiong urged stakeholders, particularly tourism industry players, to actively promote VM2026 through various platforms, including social media.

“This is crucial for boosting the tourism-driven economy and ensuring widespread benefits for the people,” he added. — Bernama
