KUALA TERENGGANU, Jan 14 — A male toy store sales assistant pleaded not guilty at the Syariah High Court here today to a charge of cross-dressing and behaving like a woman last year.

KUALA TERENGGANU, Jan 14 — A male toy store sales assistant pleaded not guilty at the Syariah High Court here today to a charge of cross-dressing and behaving like a woman last year.

The accused, Mohd Lukman Mohamad Aluddin, 33, entered his plea after the charge was read out before Syariah Judge Hamidi Shafie. He is alleged to have worn women’s clothing and acted like a woman at the KTCC shopping centre on May 12.

Mohd Lukman was charged under Section 33 of the Syariah Criminal Offences (Takzir) Enactment (Terengganu) 2001, which carries a fine of between RM1,000 and RM3,000, imprisonment of up to two years, or both. Repeat offenders may face up to six lashes, jail terms of up to three years, or both, and a fine of up to RM5,000.

The court granted him bail of RM3,000 with two sureties and fixed Feb 10 for mention of the case. — Bernama
