SINGAPORE, Feb 25 — Two Malaysian men travelling in a Malaysia-registered vehicle were arrested by Singapore authorities after allegedly trying to bypass arrival clearance at Tuas Checkpoint, the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) said.

The ICA stated that the incident occurred on February 22 when the car sped through a lane in the arrival cargo zone, breaking a drop-arm barrier after returning to Tuas Checkpoint from an earlier failed attempt the same day. Officers quickly intercepted the vehicle and detained the 40-year-old driver and his 53-year-old passenger. No injuries were reported.

In a statement on Wednesday, ICA said officers discovered approximately 97 grammes of heroin, 69 grammes of “Ice”, three Erimin-5 tablets, 27 tablets suspected to contain controlled substances, and various drug-related paraphernalia on the driver and inside a pouch beneath the front passenger seat. The driver was also found without a valid travel document.

Both suspects were later handed over to the Central Narcotics Bureau for further investigations into suspected drug offences. The driver is additionally being investigated for immigration violations and by the Traffic Police for reckless driving and other traffic-related offences. — Bernama
