KUALA LUMPUR, March 29 — Police have arrested two men who appeared in a viral video allegedly seeking “protection money” from a business operator, with investigations now ongoing.

According to Malaysiakini, Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus confirmed the arrests last night and said the case is still under investigation.

The two individuals were reportedly linked to the Federal Territory Residents Representative Council in Wangsa Maju and the PKR party, and have been asked to resign from their positions to allow investigations by both authorities and the party to proceed.

Federal Territories PKR leadership council chairperson Azman Abidin was quoted as saying the resignations were made to ensure transparency throughout the process.

The pair have denied wrongdoing, claiming their visit to a massage parlour in Wisma Setapak on March 24 was part of routine monitoring duties.

Wangsa Maju district police chief Supt Lazim Ismail said the case is being investigated under Section 385 of the Penal Code for extortion and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for improper use of network facilities.

The incident went viral after a video surfaced online showing two individuals allegedly demanding protection money from a business premises believed to be in the capital.

Meanwhile, Kuala Lumpur City Hall has denied any involvement, stressing that neither its officers nor its procedures are connected to the alleged incident.
