NILAI, May 16 — Two men believed to be involved in a string of robberies and drug trafficking activities were shot dead by police at around 10pm yesterday in the parking area of a condominium here.

Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Deputy Director (Intelligence/Operations) Datuk Fadil Marsus said the suspects, aged in their 40s and 20s, were linked to robberies targeting homes, factories, and courier hubs across several states, including Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, and Perak.

“The older suspect had 76 prior criminal records related to narcotics and violent crimes, while the younger had 11 similar offences,” Fadil told reporters at the scene shortly after midnight. Negeri Sembilan police chief Datuk Ahmad Dzaffir Mohd Yussof was also present.

Fadil explained that the suspects tried to escape in a silver vehicle but were intercepted by police, prompting a shootout in which the suspects opened fire and struck a police vehicle. No officers were injured.

Authorities believe the duo may also be connected to other violent crimes in different states. Two firearms — a semi-automatic pistol and a revolver — were recovered from the scene.

Fadil also linked the group to a robbery at a courier centre in Klang two months ago, adding that they were suspected members of a secret society.

Police have since launched a series of raids on residential units around Selangor to track down other members of the group. “These operations have led to arrests and drug seizures, with more details to follow,” he said.

The suspects were believed to have frequently changed locations, using rented condominium units as temporary hideouts.

“They were constantly on the move. The vehicle used was a rented Toyota, and we believe the registration plates were changed every two days,” Fadil added. — Bernama
