GUANGZHOU (China), Sept 22 — Guangdong Province on Monday raised its wind emergency alert to Level II as Typhoon Ragasa approaches, prompting two cities to roll out suspension measures, Xinhua reported.

The Level II alert, the second-highest in China’s four-tier warning system, came into effect at 10am on Monday.

Starting Tuesday, schools in Zhuhai and Jiangmen will suspend classes, while work, production, public transport, and business activities will also be halted later the same day, according to the local flood, drought and wind control headquarters.

Passenger ferry services to the Chuanshan Islands in Jiangmen will also be suspended beginning Tuesday, as wind speeds in nearby waters are expected to reach around 20 metres per second.

By 10am Monday, the provincial maritime safety administration had moved more than 10,000 coastal vessels to safe waters for shelter.

Typhoon Ragasa, the 18th typhoon of 2025, is forecast to make landfall along the central or western coast of Guangdong on Wednesday as a strong or super typhoon, with severe impacts expected across the province from Tuesday to Thursday, the provincial meteorological observatory said. — Bernama-Xinhua
