KYIV, Jan 17 — Ukrainian negotiators have arrived in the United States for discussions on the details of a proposed peace deal to end the four-year war with Russia, according to the head of President Volodymyr Zelenskiy’s office.

Kyrylo Budanov said the delegation is scheduled to meet White House envoy Steve Witkoff, President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, and US Army Secretary Daniel Driscoll. “Ukraine needs a just peace, and we are working towards concrete outcomes,” he said on Telegram.

Trump has been urging both Kyiv and Moscow to reach an agreement, but despite multiple rounds of talks, fighting continues along a front line stretching more than 1,200km. Ukraine and the US have drafted a 20-point peace proposal, though Russia has yet to respond.

Key sticking points include territorial issues, security guarantees and the future of the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant. Ukrainian officials said discussions will also cover security assurances and post-war reconstruction.

Zelenskiy said he hopes to sign documents outlining a “prosperity package” with the US on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos next week, potentially unlocking about US$800 billion in reconstruction investments. Trump told Reuters he may meet Zelenskiy at the forum. — Reuters
