Donald Trump is set to arrive in Beijing on Wednesday, marking the first visit by a US president to China in nearly a decade, as he seeks to advance trade discussions despite potential tensions over Taiwan and Iran.
KLUANG, May 12 — Mohamed Khaled Nordin said UMNO is open to accepting former Bersatu members and leaders who have been disciplined by their party, through the Rumah Bangsa initiative.
The UMNO vice-president, who chairs the Rumah Bangsa Unification Committee, said the party remains welcoming to anyone who wishes to join its struggle as it positions itself as a “home for the Malays”.
He told reporters after officiating the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) Madani Economy programme at Batu 3 Camp that UMNO’s “house” is large enough to accommodate all.
Mohamed Khaled was responding to recent actions by Bersatu’s Disciplinary Board, which has expelled and suspended several of its elected representatives and leaders.
The board reportedly sacked and suspended four more members yesterday for breaching the party’s constitution and code of ethics, following earlier disciplinary action last week involving six other leaders, including expulsions and suspensions.
The Rumah Bangsa initiative, introduced by UMNO president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, aims to unite the Malay community and facilitate the return of former members. It is said to have received more than 10,000 applications so far. — Bernama
