NEW YORK, May 23 — The Trump administration yesterday revoked Harvard University’s authorization to enroll foreign students—who make up over a quarter of its student body—in a sharp escalation of the president’s conflict with the prestigious institution.
ALOR SETAR, April 20 — A female student from Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) tragically lost her life in a freak accident involving two buses near a bus stop along Jalan Persiaran Perdana, UUM, yesterday morning.
The victim, 22-year-old Manarina Hasya Muhamad Karim, succumbed to her injuries after nearly 10 hours of treatment at Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital, according to Kubang Pasu district police chief Supt Mohd Radzi Abdul Rahim.
She was queuing to board a bus that had stopped at the bus stop when it was suddenly struck from behind by another bus driven by a 32-year-old man.
“The impact caused the front bus to lurch forward, hitting a metal road divider and pinning the victim who was walking in line to board the bus,” he said in a statement. The student, originally from Johor Baru, was rushed to the hospital but later passed away. The case is currently being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Meanwhile, UUM deputy vice-chancellor (student affairs and alumni) Prof Dr Ahmad Martadha Mohamed expressed his condolences to the student’s family in a Facebook post.
“In light of the accident involving a campus shuttle bus, the university is awaiting a full report from UUM’s security department and has contacted the police regarding the incident... a thorough investigation is being carried out and a full report will be issued,” he said. — Bernama
