BANGKOK, April 25 — Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra has been hospitalised with a high fever shortly after returning from an official visit to Cambodia, a government spokesperson announced today.

Paetongtarn had travelled to Cambodia earlier this week for a two-day visit, where she held discussions with Prime Minister Hun Manet on key issues including cross-border cooperation, online scams, and air pollution. The leaders also explored the potential of using Asean as a platform to engage with US President Donald Trump on trade tariffs.

“Upon her return, the Prime Minister developed a high fever and consulted a doctor, who recommended hospital admission for a comprehensive check-up,” government spokesperson Jirayu Huangsap said in a statement released Friday morning.

As a result, Paetongtarn’s Friday engagements have been postponed or reassigned to her deputies. These included meetings with e-commerce executive Chris Feng and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair.

Her husband, Pidok Sooksawas, shared an Instagram story showing Paetongtarn resting in a hospital bed, with the caption: “You didn’t listen to anyone. Your body has warned you that you couldn’t take it.”

The visit also marked the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Thailand and Cambodia. — AFP
