SANAA, March 18 — Yemen’s Houthis claimed their third attack on US warships in 48 hours, despite ongoing American airstrikes. The Iran-backed group said it targeted the USS Harry S. Truman carrier group in the Red Sea with missiles and drones.

US officials dismissed the claims as “lies and disinformation,” stating that Houthi missiles were missing targets by over 100 miles. Meanwhile, mass protests erupted across Yemen, with demonstrators chanting anti-US and anti-Israel slogans.

Washington has vowed to continue strikes until the Houthis stop attacking Red Sea shipping, warning that Iran will be held responsible. Recent US airstrikes killed 53 people and injured 98, according to Houthi sources.

The Red Sea conflict has disrupted global trade, with over 130 Houthi attacks on ships since October 2023. While the Houthis have largely observed a ceasefire since January, they recently threatened to resume attacks over Israel’s blockade of Gaza, escalating tensions further. — AFP
