KUALA LUMPUR, April 30 — The National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) has written off a loan of RM12,629.82 taken by Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) student Manarina Hasya Muhamad Karim, 22, who tragically died in a bus accident on campus last month.

In a statement yesterday, PTPTN said the loan, which was used to finance her Bachelor’s degree studies, was cleared under the agency’s Education Loan Group Takaful Protection Scheme.

“As part of the PTPTN Prihatin Visit Programme, PTPTN representatives visited the deceased’s next of kin following the tragic accident that occurred near the bus stop along Jalan Persiaran Perdana in UUM,” the statement read.

The visit and CSR contribution handover took place at the family’s home in Felda Chemplak, Labis, Johor, and was officiated by PTPTN Senior General Manager of Corporate Communications and Marketing, Zawiah Wan Abu Bakar, on behalf of the PTPTN Chairman and Management. PTPTN Johor Branch Manager Rafidah Sidek was also present.

PTPTN said the family will also receive RM1,500 in death benefit (khairat), RM2,000 in cash aid under CSR, and a food basket.

“The April 19 tragedy deeply affected the deceased’s family. As an agency under the Ministry of Higher Education, PTPTN remains committed to CSR initiatives and supporting the welfare of its borrowers.

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family, and hope the support offered through the Education Loan Group Takaful Protection Scheme brings them some relief during this difficult time,” the agency said.

The group takaful scheme is designed to cover PTPTN loans in the event of a borrower’s death or permanent disability, providing 24-hour worldwide protection.

To make a claim, next of kin or legal beneficiaries must complete the Takaful Claim Application Form, available at www.ptptn.gov.my, and submit it with the required documents either to the nearest PTPTN state or branch office or by post to PTPTN Headquarters, PTPTN Tower, Kuala Lumpur. — Bernama
