LOS ANGELES, Dec 7 — Spectacular lava fountains burst from Hawaii’s Kilauea volcano on Saturday, US volcanologists said, nearly a year after one of the world’s most active volcanoes began its latest eruptive phase.
JOHOR BAHRU, Sept 13 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has reaffirmed his commitment to reduce the price of RON95 petrol to RM1.99 per litre by the end of this month, fulfilling the Madani Government’s promise to ease the people’s burden.
He said the move reflects the government’s dedication to ensuring that Malaysians enjoy fuel prices below the actual market rate.
“Some are upset because September has started but the price has yet to drop. I said before the end of September. Is Sept 10 the end of the month? Is Sept 15 the end of the month? Just wait. Will it go down? Yes, it will.
“Tell me, which other country provides such low prices for its people? We promised, and we will deliver,” he said during his speech at the Johor-level Rapat Umum 27 Tahun Reformasi programme today.
Anwar, who also serves as Finance Minister, noted that the current price of RON95 is RM2.05 per litre, compared to the unsubsidised market price of between RM2.50 and RM2.60 per litre.
On another matter, the prime minister addressed criticism of his frequent overseas trips, stressing that his visits were official and made at the invitation of foreign leaders, not for leisure.
He said such engagements reflect Malaysia’s strong standing on the global stage.
“People often say I travel abroad a lot. Do you think I go for holidays? This is work. Don’t assume these trips mean nothing — the Prime Minister travels because foreign leaders invite me,” he explained.
As an example, Anwar said he had been invited by the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, to attend the Emergency Arab-Islamic Summit on Sept 15 to discuss the dire situation in Palestine, especially Gaza.
He stressed that as a free and sovereign nation, Malaysia must remain courageous in speaking up and playing an active role in international affairs. — Bernama
