NEW YORK, May 23 — The Trump administration yesterday revoked Harvard University’s authorization to enroll foreign students—who make up over a quarter of its student body—in a sharp escalation of the president’s conflict with the prestigious institution.
KUALA LUMPUR, April 23 — The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a thunderstorm warning, forecasting heavy rain and strong winds across most states, effective until 6pm today.
The alert includes the entire state of Perlis and several districts in Kedah such as Langkawi, Kubang Pasu, Padang Terap, Sik, Baling, Kulim, and Bandar Baharu. Parts of Penang, including Seberang Perai Utara, Tengah, and Selatan, are also expected to be affected.
Similar weather conditions are anticipated in various districts of Perak (Kerian, Larut, Matang and Selama, Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar, Kinta, Kampar, Batang Padang, and Muallim), Selangor (Hulu Selangor and Gombak), and Johor (Mersing and Kota Tinggi).
The warning further extends to all of Terengganu and Pahang, as well as several areas in Kelantan, including Machang, Pasir Puteh, Kuala Krai, and Gua Musang.
In East Malaysia, thunderstorms are forecast in Sarawak’s Limbang and several locations in Sabah, including Sipitang, Tenom, Beaufort, Tambunan, and West Coast districts such as Tuaran, Ranau, and Kota Belud.
MetMalaysia noted that short-term thunderstorm warnings are issued when rainfall exceeds 20 millimetres per hour and is expected to persist for over an hour. These warnings remain valid for up to six hours.
Additionally, the department announced a Tsunami Early Warning System test scheduled for tomorrow at Masjid Daerah Timur Laut (Floating Mosque) in Tanjung Bungah, Penang, from 9am to noon. Residents are advised not to panic if they hear sirens, as the test is part of a planned drill.
