KOTA TINGGI, April 20 — A 71-year-old man has been remanded for seven days until April 26 in connection with a shooting incident in Taman Kota Jaya that left three people dead yesterday.
KUALA LUMPUR, April 20 — The Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) will consult the Selangor state government following the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah’s suggestion to postpone the 2026 Malaysia Games (Sukma) in Selangor.
Youth and Sports Minister Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari said the move comes after His Royal Highness raised the matter during the opening ceremony of the Fourth Session of the 15th Selangor State Legislative Assembly today.
He said the Sultan’s view reflects concerns over the ongoing global energy crisis and its economic impact, as well as the need to ensure the Shah Alam Stadium is fully completed before the Games proceed.
“In this regard, I will seek the views and feedback from the Selangor state government as the host,” he said in a statement today.
He added that a special meeting of the Sukma 2026 Supreme Committee will also be convened to deliberate on the issue, involving all states, the National Sports Council (NSC) and the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM).
Earlier, Sultan Sharafuddin suggested that Sukma Selangor 2026, scheduled from August 15 to 24, be postponed until the West Asia crisis eases and the Shah Alam Stadium reconstruction is completed.
Meanwhile, the Selangor government said it will also consider feedback from state assembly members during the ongoing State Legislative Assembly sitting on the matter raised by the Sultan. — Bernama
