TAWAU, Feb 24 — Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi hopes the Election Commission (EC) will take the upcoming Ramadan into account when setting the Ayer Kuning by-election date.

“We are not in a rush as Ramadan is approaching. We hope the EC will choose a suitable date,” said Zahid, who is also Deputy Prime Minister, after attending the Sabah UMNO 34th anniversary celebration.

The Ayer Kuning seat became vacant following the sudden passing of UMNO’s Ishsham Shahruddin, 59, who collapsed after a football match at Penang City Stadium.

Separately, Zahid plans to visit former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, who was hospitalized after fainting at home on Saturday.

During his visit to Tawau, Zahid officiated the Sentuhan Kasih Desa@Tawau 2025 closing ceremony and inaugurated the Kalabakan UMNO division office. — Bernama
