TAIPING, Sept 27 — The Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) remains committed to supporting students, especially those from the B40 group, in pursuing studies at institutions of higher learning despite financial challenges.
Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir said the assistance is provided through initiatives such as the Sulung programme and the Yayasan Perkasa Siswa (YPS) fund.
“It is our duty to identify and assist students in need. We have been and will continue to provide support through the Sulung initiative and YPS fund, regardless of race,” he told reporters after attending the MADANI POLYCC Project handover ceremony in Kampung Batu 8, Bendang Siam, today.
Also present was Department of Polytechnic and Community College Education (JPPKK) director-general Datuk Mohd Zahari Ismail.
The Sulung initiative is aimed at providing opportunities and financial aid for students from B40 families who are the first in their families to pursue degree-level or higher studies at public universities.
Zambry also announced that RM1.2 million has been allocated for various community development projects in Kampung Batu 8 under the Kampung Angkat MADANI (MADANI Village Adoption) initiative and the MADANI TVET programme managed by JPPKK.
The allocation includes upgrading the surau, building a public hall, constructing an open hall at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Bendang Siam, setting up a funeral room at Masjid Al-Wusqa, and adding a recreational gazebo at the surau for villagers to rest.
Additionally, Bagan Datuk Polytechnic contributed a boat for use by the local community. — Bernama
