ISTANBUL, April 12 — A man climbed onto a parked US military aircraft at Shannon Airport in Ireland yesterday and damaged its fuselage and wing using an axe, Anadolu Ajansi reported, citing local media.

Irish media reported that the C-130 Hercules transport aircraft had departed from Kansas in the United States, stopped in Canada, and later landed at Shannon Airport on Friday.

The suspect allegedly breached the airport perimeter fence, entered the aircraft parking area, climbed onto the plane, and struck it with an axe.

The incident led to a temporary suspension of airport operations for around 30 minutes before armed police intervened.

Irish police (Garda) said the man, believed to be in his 40s, has been arrested and remains in custody as investigations continue.

Authorities confirmed the aircraft was damaged, with airport officials describing the impact as significant.

It was also reported that US military aircraft at Shannon Airport have been targeted in three separate incidents since last May. — Bernama-Anadolu
