TEHRAN, April 13 — Iran’s military has described a US naval blockade due to take effect today as illegal and equivalent to piracy, warning that no ports in the Gulf would remain secure if its own facilities were threatened.
PONTIAN, April 13 — Police have uncovered a drug distribution method involving e-hailing services following the arrest of a suspected mule during an operation last Friday.
Pontian police chief Supt Hadzrat Hussien Mion Hussain said a team from the District Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division (BSJND), conducting an Ops Tapis patrol, noticed a suspicious e-hailing vehicle parked along Jalan Kukup in Kampung Penerok at about 9.15pm and moved in to check.
A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of crystal-like substances, believed to be syabu, weighing approximately 1,528 grammes and valued at RM69,080.
“A 36-year-old unemployed local man, who was a passenger in the car, was detained to assist with investigations,” he said in a statement today.
Hadzrat Hussien added that the suspect admitted to taking on the job from a man he befriended while serving time at Simpang Renggam Prison in 2020.
According to the suspect, he received instructions via phone to collect and deliver the drugs to a designated location in exchange for RM1,000.
The suspect, who has two prior drug and criminal records, was instructed to retrieve the drugs from a blue Perodua Bezza parked near Tea Garden in Perling, before using a Grab ride to transport them to the intended destination.
Police have obtained a seven-day remand order until April 17 under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code to facilitate investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Meanwhile, the 43-year-old e-hailing driver, a local woman, has been released on police bail.
Authorities also cautioned the public against accepting delivery tasks involving unknown items or being enticed by high payments, warning that such actions could lead to unknowingly becoming involved in drug trafficking. — Bernama
