HONG KONG, June 18 — Hong Kong’s Observatory raised its highest-level black rainstorm warning at 12.55pm local time (0455 GMT/12.55pm Malaysian time) today, ordering schools to close and some businesses to suspend operations as heavy rain threatened severe flooding.
NEW YORK, June 16 — Jérémy Doku has said he hopes to be present for the birth of his first child next month, raising a potential scheduling issue for Belgium’s World Cup campaign.
The 24-year-old Manchester City winger said his wife Shireen is expected to give birth in the second week of July, which could coincide with the World Cup quarter-final stage.
Doku acknowledged the personal importance of the moment, noting that no player would want to miss the birth of their first child, while also stressing the competing demands of international football. He added that the Belgian federation has been supportive and understanding of players’ personal circumstances, and that arrangements would be considered if needed.
Reports in Belgian media suggest that a private flight could be organised to take him to England for the birth, with a return to the United States planned should Belgium remain in the tournament.
