HONG KONG, June 18 — Hong Kong’s Observatory raised its highest-level black rainstorm warning at 12.55pm local time (0455 GMT/12.55pm Malaysian time) today, ordering schools to close and some businesses to suspend operations as heavy rain threatened severe flooding.
CHUKAI, June 17 — The search and rescue operation for two fishermen feared missing after their boat sank in Kemaman waters on June 10 has entered its seventh day, with no new leads reported.
Kemaman Zone Maritime director Abdul Halim Hamzah said the search area has been expanded to 50.40 square nautical miles as efforts continue.
He said the operation involves 19 personnel from the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) and eight from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), supported by assets including the MMEA vessel KM Redang and PDRM boat PLC 3.
“As of 12 noon today, search teams have yet to uncover any new clues on the whereabouts of the two victims, identified as skipper Azan Muda, 68, and Nordin Mohammad, 61,” he said in a statement.
The incident occurred on June 10, when the fishing boat carrying the two men was caught in a storm and sank around 12.30am.
A third fisherman, Mahadi Jusoh, 51, was rescued by fellow fishermen at about 10.30am the following morning. — Bernama
