HONG KONG, June 18 — Hong Kong’s Observatory raised its highest-level black rainstorm warning at 12.55pm local time (0455 GMT/12.55pm Malaysian time) today, ordering schools to close and some businesses to suspend operations as heavy rain threatened severe flooding.
KUALA LUMPUR, June 18 — Malaysia has climbed eight places to rank 15th out of 70 economies in the 2026 International Institute for Management Development (IMD) World Competitiveness Ranking, marking its strongest performance in recent years.
The latest achievement follows last year’s jump of 11 positions to 23rd place among 69 economies, after ranking 34th out of 67 economies in 2024.
The IMD rankings assess countries based on four key pillars: economic performance, government efficiency, business efficiency and infrastructure.
According to IMD, Malaysia’s improved standing was driven by progress across all four areas. The country ranked fourth globally for economic performance, while government efficiency rose 11 spots to 14th place. Business efficiency recorded a significant improvement, climbing 16 positions to 16th, and infrastructure advanced two places to rank 33rd.
Among the sub-indicators, Malaysia’s domestic economy moved up four spots to 11th place, while international trade improved by one position to rank fifth globally.
International investment also posted a notable gain, climbing seven places to 19th position. — Bernama
