PENAMPANG, June 17 — A man was discovered dead in a forest at Kampung Togudon here on Monday.

Penampang district police chief Supt Sammy Newton said villagers came across the body of the 48-year-old at about 6am.

He said investigations showed the victim had gone into the forest alone on June 10 to check and maintain his bat net.

Police also found a chainsaw and other belongings believed to belong to the deceased at the scene.

“Preliminary findings suggest the victim was struck by a falling tree while attempting to cut it down,” he said in a statement.

No criminal elements were detected, and the case has been classified as sudden death.

The body was later removed from the forest and sent to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for a post-mortem.

Sammy also urged the public not to speculate or circulate any photos or videos of the incident on social media. — The Borneo Post.
